Eligibility
Should grades cause students to be ineligible to play sports? When a student's grades drop below a 2.0 GPA they are no longer allowed to participate in NCAA sports. I feel that if a students grades drop this low that they should not be allowed to participate in any non academic event. Student's should not be aloud to practice or compete until their grades rise above a “C” average. In my eyes a 2.0 average is not very difficult to obtain and that it is a low minimum grade point average. If a student cannot keep a 2.0 average then they have no place on a court or field. School needs to come first and if a student cannot keep that high of an average then school is obviously not there first priority.

Thousands of students are not able to play sports due to their grades and feel that it is unfair. When an athlete gets injured or cannot perform at the next level what are they going to due without an education. All athletes need an education to fall back on and it is a necessary requirement. Still it is a huge controversy weather or not school should effect athletics. In my eyes there is no question that school should effect sports.
Being an athlete in college does not mean that sports come first. As a student athlete school must always come first and is the number one priority. Some college athletes feel that sports are their jobs and that they wont need an education in the future. Even students that expect to go professional need to have an education. Thousands of athletes every year get hurt and if they don't have an education then they are not going to be able to support themselves. Some athletes are also not able to perform at the next level and will need the knowledge they gain in college to get a good job.
A 2.0 GPA is not hard to maintain if an athlete manages there time and makes the effort to get good grades. I am glad that there is a grade requirement for athletes and by no means feel that it should be any lower than a “C” average. All athletes must keep there grades up to pare if they want to compete in any NCAA sport.

llegal Recruiting
Should certain athletes get special treatment? Athlete's receiving illegal gifts such as cars, housing, and extra money has been a huge controversy in the past several years. Should any of this be allowed to get those high end recruits that are looking at all the other top schools in the nation?
Most recently in the press is Reggie Bush who now plays in the NFL for the reigning world champions the Saints. Reggie Bush won the Heisman trophy his senior year while playing at USC. Just in the past year the NCAA took the heisman back from Reggie for accepting illegal gifts while at USC. Reggie received a car and extra money and the university bought his parents a house.
Should Reggie be held accountable for these actions. Yes it was wrong of him to do but should his awards be taken from him. Would he have played any worse without them? USC did what they felt they had to in order to get the huge recruit that Reggie was to there school. They took the illegal actions and should be punished. Should Reggie be punished for simply accepting the offers?
Should actions like this be allowed to get the huge recruits? Some feel that this should be allowed but many strongly disagree. I strongly disagree. College although a necessary step to get to the professional leagues is for education. Colleges can offer a completely free education at a great school, with a winning team and great academics. If an athlete is good enough to go to the pro’s then they can get payed there. College is not for making money and getting gifts. college is about getting an education for your future weather you are a great athlete or not.
Schools need to use quality things to bring in big recruits such as good academics, a nice campus, coaches, team mates and competitiveness.
